Dún Laoghaire Christmas Festival on Ice from November 25th 2016 to January 8th 2017 presented by Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council in association with the Dún Laoghaire BID Company sparkles with family fun and is sure to make your festive spirit soar. The People’s Park was like a winter wonderland as Olympic star Annalise Murphy helped An Cathaoirleach Councillor Cormac Devlin unveil the Christmas event schedule along with Holly Walker (4), Sophie Bracken (4) and Siberian Husky, Magic.
The festival includes a whole host of exciting events including a real Ice Rink at dlr LexIcon Garden at Moran Parkfrom November 25th 2016 – January 8th 2017. Santa arrives to Harbour Plaza on November 26th with Christmas Carols and festive fun from 5pm and a magnificent fireworks display will illuminate the night sky to officially turn on the Christmas lights. Santa will then take up residence in his magical Grotto at Dun Laoghaire Shopping Centre!
Seasons ‘eatings’ will get underway with Flavours of Dún Laoghaire Christmas Kitchen at the junction of Marine Road and George’s Street from November 25th to 27th and on the same weekend Black Friday will see special offers and free food sampling all over the town. A record attempt … on ice on December 10th will raise funds for charity and the merry Christmas Market on the Metals will be a feast for the senses with delicious festive fare, handcrafted gifts and decorations and a funfair with an old-world children’s carousel. Smash hit TV shows like Dancing on Ice have made ice skating more popular than ever so get your skates on at the brand new 3500 square foot real ice rink which will be open every day from November 25th at dlr LexIcon Garden at Moran Park. Sip a hot chocolate at the rink side café and soak up the atmosphere as adults become children and children have an unforgettable winter treat. Tickets for the Ice Rink are available from €13 at the box office or check online events.dlrcoco.ie for tickets and times.
The Dún Laoghaire Christmas market is a feast for the seasonal senses as carefully selected vendors sell authentic hand-made gifts and delicious treats every weekend from November 26th to December 23rd at the Pavilion Quarter and dlr LexIcon from 11am to 7pm. Aromas of gourmet sausages, Hungarian Beef Goulash Soup and Lángos, delectable donuts, German Gluhwein and steaming hot chocolate will fill the air as you wander through the Christmas Market with hand-crafted gifts and decorations, jewellery, metal art, sculpture and a whole host of very special quality gifts and treats that are not mass-produced but hand crafted with love.
